Volunteer Event 2017

Posted on July 3, 2017 - Recent Event

A big thank you to everyone who helped to make the day such a success.

Taking place in Volunteers’ Week, an annual celebration of the fantastic contribution millions of volunteers make across the UK each year, it gave Home-Start Wirral the ideal opportunity to show their appreciation to the many volunteers who give up their time in support of Wirral families each week.

Everyone had a fantastic time, and it was a lovely opportunity to catch up with staff and other volunteers you may not have seen in a while.

We were all treated to a scrumptious buffet, to say nothing of the tempting array of cakes that it was difficult to say no to.

The children were kept occupied with craft activities and other games; the weather was even kind to us, which made a delightful day just perfect.

‘Quality Assurance’ success

Posted on March 5, 2017 - News, Recent Event

Home-Start Wirral last had a ‘Quality Assurance Review’ in 2012, so the 7th February 2017 was an ideal opportunity to demonstrate its continued good practice and compliance to the Home-Start QA system.

The ‘Quality Assurance Review’ is a rigorous internal audit, consisting of a one day visit by a QA Specialist from Home-Start UK, who assesses the scheme using information gathered on the day and self-assessment data provided by the scheme.

Supporting documentation is gathered by:

  • Spot checking of Trustee, Staff, Volunteer and Family files
  • Spot checking of any other electronic or manual files/record keeping systems
  • Face to Face interviews with the Chair and Senior worker within the scheme
  • Discussion with other staff

Mandatory indicators are reviewed by the QA Specialist. Key and Developmental indicators are reviewed by the scheme’s self-assessments, from which the report is formulated.

By achieving 100% of the mandatory indicators at the initial review, we are proud to announce that Home-Start Wirral’s scheme has been accredited, and we have been issued with our new certificate.

Volunteer Christmas Event

Staff and volunteers had a fantastic time on Friday 2nd December at Mayer Hall in Bebington.

img_2359rev2This years ‘Volunteer Christmas Event’ was a tremendous success, giving us a chance to thank all our volunteers for their hard work throughout the year.

Without their continued efforts and support, Home-Start Wirral would not be able to continue supporting so many families within Wirral, and having a positive influence on so many young lives.

This years celebration was a little special, Home-Start Wirral having recently achieved the prestigious accolade of the ‘Investing In Volunteers’ award.

The event gave Mayor of Wirral Cllr Pat Hackett and Mayoress Mrs Elaine Hackett an opportunity to formally present Home-Start Wirral with the award. They were also joined by speakers Julia Hassall, Director of Children’s Services and Fiona Johnson, Director of Public Health, whose attendance contributed to making the occasion one to remember.

img_2350rev2Volunteers were greeted with welcome drinks and treated to a selection of delicious sandwiches and fancy cakes. The renovated and refurbished Mayer Hall was the perfect venue for this years celebration, the ideal setting to chat with Home-Start Wirral staff and volunteersp1080828 you may not have seen for a while. Generously donated raffle prizes also meant that volunteers went home with some lovely prizes that kept the fun and excitement of the afternoon going right to the very end.

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend and we hoped you enjoyed yourself.

We would like to take the opportunity to wish everyone involved with Home-Start Wirral a very Happy Christmas and a peaceful New year.

We’re on the move!

Posted on March 19, 2016 - News, Recent Event

We will be moving our main office out of Argyle Street and into the Home-Start Hub (Woodchurch Lane, Prenton, Wirral CH42 9PH) on Monday 21st March, this will be the new permanent base for all staff.

While it will be a little sad to see our Argyle Street office close, having been there for a number of years, it is a way we can reduce our expenditure at a time when charities are finding it harder and harder to raise funds.kid-in-pink-circle.jpg

There will be no changes to any of the services we operate and we hope the move will have minimum disruption.

Currently we have 3 different telephone numbers, one for Family Support, one for Breastfeeding Support and the third is the Hub telephone number. Moving to the Hub does mean that we will just have one phone number 0151 608 8288 from Thursday 18th March so please make a note of this new office number.

Thank you to everyone for their continued support.

STAFF from Asda in Birkenhead celebrated the company’s 50th anniversary with a donation of more than £8,000 and a cake to Home-Start Wirral.
Customers and colleagues at the store were asked to nominate local community projects and Home Start Wirral received the most votes, receiving a surprise cake and a £8,695 donation from the Asda Foundation.

Kelly Jackson, store manager at Asda Birkenhead, said:

“We wanted to give back to a deserving cause in Birkenhead as a huge thank you for the work they do in the community – and Home-Start Wirral really fits the bill.”

“Everybody loves a party and a slice of cake, and as it’s our 50th birthday we wanted to celebrate with everyone who has helped make Asda what it is over the past 50 years.”

Set up in 1988, the Asda Foundation aims to have a positive impact on local communities, by providing support to a range of local good causes, chosen by Asda community life colleagues across the UK.

Home-Start Wirral Christmas Fair

Posted on October 12, 2014 - Recent Event, Uncategorized

Home Start Wirral are making a list and checking it twice in preparation for the launch of their Snowflake Appeal Christmas Fair at 4748 Hamilton Square on Friday 14th and Saturday 15th of November. The charity, that trains volunteers to support local families in crisis are hoping for a blizzard of support.

“It’s a sad fact that this Christmas there are children on Wirral dealing with the consequences of living in poor housing, with financial difficulties, with a seriously ill parent or other circumstances that   can affect their early development. Home Start Wirral Volunteers recognise that each child is unique and delicate like a snow flake and they are trained to give practical and emotional support that can help to improve outcomes for these families.” Says Bev Morgan CEO

Money raised at this event will ensure that Home Start Wirral can continue its valuable work with vulnerable children.

“We have something for everyone at the fair , stalls with locally made gifts and jewellery, a workshop where you can learn to play the ukulele in twenty minutes and of course Santa will be in residence at the Grotto” says fundraiser Sara Forfar

“It’s free entry to the fair at   a great Wirral  venue with a cafe serving festive food and drinks so we are hoping as many people will come and soak up the festive atmosphere as possible. Liscard Primary School Choir and  The Wirral Community Choir will be performing at 10am on the Saturday so come for breakfast and meet Santa in relaxed environment.” She continued

The Fair is being held at 4748 Hamilton Square from 1pm on Friday 14th November and from 10am on Saturday 15th November For more details about the event please call 0151 647 8369 or email
