This Mum Can – Website Survey

Posted on March 17, 2015 - News

Dear All,

Home-Start Wirral are gathering information about the amount of physical activity women across Wirral engage in, to assist us in applying for funding in collaboration with “Tranmere in the Community”.
The funding will enable mums and tots to access activities more readily with support from Home-Start Wirral.
Completing this questionnaire will help us to evidence what Home-Start volunteers, families and services want and will gain from the project.
This survey can be filled out by any female…..please pass on the link to help make the project successful!

Critical changes to our Family Support service – Referring agencies

Posted on March 10, 2015 - News

FAO – All referrers,

I am writing to inform you that we have been notified by the Local Authority that they will not be renewing the funding for us to provide Family Support. Most of these referrals have come via the Gateway and directly from Social Workers.

Unfortunately the CCG have also decided that they cannot continue to fund our Sunrise Project (Parent/Infant Mental Health Support).

The following projects are still open, and if you would like information regarding the criteria to refer please contact the office on 0151 647 8369.

  • Bump-Start
  • Home-Play Project
  • Early Years Project

It is therefore with regret that I am writing to inform you that the support we provide for any families that were referred in to or Family Support and Sunrise projects will be ending. Some will be ended by 31st March, for others we will be able to provide support until the end of April.

Any families that still need support after this time who meet the Gateway criteria, and give consent, will be referred into the Gateway for the Local Authority to try and find appropriate support.

We will work closely with you and other agencies involved with the family to make our withdrawal of support as smooth as possible.

We have also sent a copy of this letter to the family Health Visitor so that they are aware of the situation.

If you require any further information, please contact the Home-Start Wirral office on 0151 647 8369.

Yours sincerely

Bev Morgan

CEO, Home-Start Wirral

Referral letter – funding cuts

Critical changes to our Family Support service – Volunteers

Posted on March 4, 2015 - News

Dear volunteers,

It is with regret that I have to inform you that we have just been notified by the Local Authority that the funding they have been providing for us to provide Family Support since 2009 is being stopped. We have also been told by Wirral CCG, who have provided funding for the Sunrise Mental Health Project for the past 12 months, that their funding is also coming to an end.

This does not mean that Home-Start Wirral is facing closure because we still have other sources of funding for all the activities at the Hub, the Breastfeeding Peer Support Service, the Bump-Start Project, and the Early Learning School Project. We also have a new Home Play Project starting on 1st April.

It does, however, mean that we will have no funding for our core family support work or for the Sunrise Project. We do have some funding applications submitted to other sources and I will be applying for other funding but this will not be in place for us to continue support the families that are funded by the L.A or CCG projects.

As you can imagine staff and Trustees are very upset by this news because it does mean that we will have to end support for families that still need it. It also means that we are having to make a number of staff redundant.

If you are a family support volunteer your co-ordinator will be in touch with you asap, but please appreciate that they have a lot of families, volunteers and referrers to make contact with over the next couple of weeks so please don’t worry if they don’t contact you immediately.

The first course of action is for co-ordinators to visit their families and explain what is happening and do the final paperwork with the family. If the family still needs support once we finish we will ask their consent to refer into the Local Authority Family Support Team. We will also be notifying the family Health Visitor so if the family do not want Local Authority support then at least the Health Visitor can monitor things.

Co-ordinators will come out to do one final supervision with all their Family Support Volunteers before they are made redundant.

If you are supporting a family that does need support to continue you will be able to continue to visit until the end of May and you will continue to get support and supervision but this could be by myself or another member of staff.

I know this news will be upsetting for many of you but unfortunately we, like many other voluntary organisations at the moment, are facing difficult times. We have been through such times before and come through it and I believe we will again, and would urge you to continue to support us in any way you can.

All volunteers , not just Family Support volunteers, are invited to come along to hear a bit more about our future plans and to find out how you can help lobby support for Home-Start Wirral, and support any fundraising initiatives. Also, to just come along and support each other.

If you can’t make any of the dates/times below but would still like to contact us with any concerns or ideas please do call or email me at the office.

Can you please contact the office on 0151 647 8369 to let us know what meeting you are able to attend by Monday 9 March. Thank you.

Thursday 12th March 6:00p.m – 7:00p.m The Hub, Woodchurch Lane
Tuesday 17th March 1.30p.m – 2.30p.m Training Room, Market Street
Thursday 19th March 10:00a.m – 11:00a.m Training Room, Market Street

Yours sincerely

Home-Start Wirral Christmas Fair

Posted on October 12, 2014 - Recent Event, Uncategorized

Home Start Wirral are making a list and checking it twice in preparation for the launch of their Snowflake Appeal Christmas Fair at 4748 Hamilton Square on Friday 14th and Saturday 15th of November. The charity, that trains volunteers to support local families in crisis are hoping for a blizzard of support.

“It’s a sad fact that this Christmas there are children on Wirral dealing with the consequences of living in poor housing, with financial difficulties, with a seriously ill parent or other circumstances that   can affect their early development. Home Start Wirral Volunteers recognise that each child is unique and delicate like a snow flake and they are trained to give practical and emotional support that can help to improve outcomes for these families.” Says Bev Morgan CEO

Money raised at this event will ensure that Home Start Wirral can continue its valuable work with vulnerable children.

“We have something for everyone at the fair , stalls with locally made gifts and jewellery, a workshop where you can learn to play the ukulele in twenty minutes and of course Santa will be in residence at the Grotto” says fundraiser Sara Forfar

“It’s free entry to the fair at   a great Wirral  venue with a cafe serving festive food and drinks so we are hoping as many people will come and soak up the festive atmosphere as possible. Liscard Primary School Choir and  The Wirral Community Choir will be performing at 10am on the Saturday so come for breakfast and meet Santa in relaxed environment.” She continued

The Fair is being held at 4748 Hamilton Square from 1pm on Friday 14th November and from 10am on Saturday 15th November For more details about the event please call 0151 647 8369 or email
